1968 HEMI BARRACUDA

Barracuda comes to new home

This is my 1968 hemi barracuda.   It is my latest acquisition, and need less to say, my most prized car yet.  The car was built by the HURST facilities strictly for Drag Racing!  There were only 70 Barracudas, 9 with 4 speeds and  80 Dodge Darts. All the Darts were shipped to Grand Spalding Dodge. They were built with a  light- weight  fiberglass front end and hood, acid dipped front bumper, and light-weight Corning glass.  This was the first year Chrysler put the monster 426 hemi in the A body car.  They literally had to take a hammer and pound in part of the inner body well near the right shock tower to shoe horn the motor in the car.  The motor was rated at 500 hp which propelled the car through the quarter mile at 150 miles per hour with an et. of 10.30!

NOTE  In the picture above the roll cage was installed later in its life per NHRA rules.
The interior is sparse.  The radio, rear seat,  and heater were deleted. Also, all sound deadening was removed from under the carpet.  Window mechanisms were replace by straps.  The original seats were taken out and replaced with light weight A 100 van seats attached to aluminum brackets.  The shifter was supplied by HURST, of course.   The role cage will be replaced  so it can go Nostalgia Racing.
